De Dolle Brouwers (Esen, Belgium)

There is nothing shy about this beer. Coming in at 8%, it is a perfectly hop and yeast forward pale ale that highlights the talents at De Dolle Brouwers. This beer is named after the macaw ('ara' in Flemmish) and, like its namesake, is a sight to behold. Pours with a burnt orange hue with a lasting meringue-like head. The nose is baking spices, marmalade, peach and banana bread. On the palate, the subtle maltiness carries the noble hop flavours with a present but refreshing bitterness. Grapefruit, candied sugar with a grassy and floral finish. Serve between 12-15 C in a wide-mouthed chalice or wine glass. The beer should be poured so the yeast is not roused, leaving 0.5 cm of beer in the bottle.
