Rotbier has a unique history, and was a style that originated in Nürnberg as a competitor to the Weißbiers that were so popular throughout Germany. Made using exclusively with barley (instead of wheat), this lager is perfect for the Fall weather. A liquid hoodie, if you will. TL;DR? Rotbier = historical German amber/red lager.
