Bellwoods Brewery (Toronto, ON) X Still Fields Brewery (Meaford, ON)

Barrel 437 is a single barrel Spontaneous Grape Ale and a collaboration with Still Fields — a brewery started by Owen, a friend and former colleague of Bellwoods. After a night in the coolship, the wort was added to freshly pressed Cab Franc skins, combining the wild yeast from these two sources. This hybrid elixir was fermented and aged in a single neutral French oak puncheon. The resulting beer is a happy (and delicious) meeting point of spontaneous beer and natural wine. Notes of grapefruit rind, green pepper, and strawberry jam, with assertive acidity.
